Systems Engineer

Shaping the Platform - What you will be doing 

You’ll balance hands‑on engineering with strategic thinking, working closely with internal teams and technology partners to: 

  • Design, implement, and operate enterprise systems (on‑prem, cloud, hybrid) 
  • Ensure high availability, performance, scalability, and security of all Odyssey platforms 
  • Lead during complex incidents and major outages 
  • Drive automation, standardisation, and continuous improvement 
  • Contribute to architecture, roadmaps, and lifecycle planning 
  • Collaborate across security, applications, vendors, and business teams 
  • Mentor others and lift overall capability

You’ll work across a modern, evolving stack and influence how it’s built and run. We are looking for someone with skills and capabilities across the following areas:

  • 5+ years in Systems Engineering or senior infrastructure roles 
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking 
  • A continuous improvement mindset 
  • Certifications (Microsoft, Azure, AWS, VMware) are nice to have.

 


Core Capability Areas 

1. Infrastructure & Systems 

  • Windows Server, Linux, Active Directory, DNS, GPO 
  • Virtualisation (VMware/Hyper‑V), HA/DR design 
  • Backup and recovery strategies 
  • Ability to design and optimise, not just support 

 

2. Cloud & Hybrid 

  • Azure and/or AWS 
  • Hybrid identity (Entra ID, SSO, conditional access) 
  • Governance, cost control, landing zones 
  • Practical understanding of cloud architecture and security 

 

3. Networking 

  • TCP/IP, routing, VLANs, VPNs, DNS 
  • Troubleshooting across LAN/WAN/Wi‑Fi 
  • Firewall and network security basics 
  • Ability to diagnose cross‑layer issues 

 

4. Security 

  • Security‑first mindset 
  • Patching, endpoint hardening, identity protection 
  • Vulnerability management and incident response awareness 
  • Proactive risk identification 

 

5. Automation & Tooling 

  • PowerShell, Bash (or similar) 
  • Automation of deployments and ops 
  • Exposure to IaC/config management 
  • Focus on repeatable, maintainable solutions 

 

6. Modern Workplace 

  • Microsoft 365 and endpoint platforms 
  • Intune, SCCM, or similar 
  • Strong focus on user experience and reliability 

 

7. Operations 

  • Incident, problem, and change management 
  • ITIL-aligned environments 
  • Strong documentation habits 
  • Calm, structured approach under pressure 

 

8. Stakeholder Engagement 

  • Translate tech into business outcomes 
  • Confident with vendors and senior stakeholders 
  • Collaborative, outcome-focused
